Multi-cultural Literacy
Multicultural Literacy is the ability to understand and appreciate the similarities and differences in the customs, values, and beliefs of one’s own culture and the culture of others.
Multicultural Literacy prepares students for their responsibilities in an interdependent world and ensures that faculty and staff are culturally competent, multiculturally literate and capable of implementing an anti-bias curriculum.
Students who are multiculturally literate value diversity, exhibit an informed sensitivity by knowing the history of both mainstream and non-mainstream American cultures, take perspectives of other cultural groups and are sensitive to issues of bias, racism, prejudice, and stereotyping and actively engage with/in other cultures.
