Other Grades

Admission to grades other than kindergarten and sixth is by attrition only, and it is therefore difficult to determine where places may become available. We encourage you to apply, however, if you feel MCDS would be a good fit for your child and family, as the number of vacancies varies from year to year.

How to Apply

Parents can request an application packet from the admission office by e-mail to admission@mcds.org. Please provide the following information:

  • Child's name
  • Grade applying to
  • Parents'/guardians' names
  • Mailing address
  • Telephone number.

The application packet will include the following forms to be completed and returned to MCDS before January 14, 2009:

  • Application Form. A non-refundable application fee of $100 should accompany the application. This fee may be reduced or waived if it presents a financial hardship.
  • Student Evaluation/Recommendation Forms. Submit two evaluation/recommendation forms to your child' s current and former teachers for their completion.
  • Records Release Form
  • Testing Location Form

Parent Meetings with Directors of Admission Ann Borden or Jeff Escabar will be scheduled after we receive the application. Parents will be notified of their appointment dates by mail and are encouraged to keep their assigned appointments because of the large number of applications received. If rescheduling is necessary, a limited number of dates will be available toward the end of the admission season.

Evaluation Process

Grade 1: Screening by outside evaluators and MCDS first grade teachers will be administered on Saturday, February 2, 2008.

Grades 2-8: Testing by a group of MCDS teachers will be administered on Saturday, February 2, 2008. Students applying to grades 6-8 will take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). A registration booklet is included with the application packet or online registration is available at www.erbtest.org.
