Sixth Grade
As students move from Middle (grades 3-5) to Upper School (grades 6-8), the program shifts from self-contained classrooms to a departmentalized structure and grade-level advisor groups. This format allows us to admit new students to expand the size of the grade from 54 to approximately 70 (which also broadens the social dynamic of the class and enables returning students to make new friends).
Entering school at sixth grade, when many students and parents in the community have been together for several years, poses special challenges as well as opportunities for families. To make the transition as smooth as possible, it is particularly important for families entering in Upper School to make a commitment to participate fully in the life of the school.
