Transportation
Children are transported to and from school via carpools or school buses. While the school provides assistance, ultimate responsibility for getting to and from school rests with each family. The commute typically becomes a pleasant daily ritual—a time of conversation and camaraderie with friends.
Bus routes are determined by ridership demand, safety considerations and length of riding time. Though subject to modification before the start of each school year, MCDS buses typically transport children to pick-up and drop-off points in the following areas:
San Francisco
Marina, Cow Hollow, Presidio Heights, Pacific Heights, Seacliff, Richmond, Forest Hills, St. Francis Woods, Haight Ashbury, Western Addition.
Marin
San Rafael, Novato, Fairfax, San Anselmo, Ross, Kentfield, Greenbrae, Larkspur, Corte Madera, Mill Valley, Tiburon, Belvedere, Sausalito.
MCDS bus service is operated by the school’s own Transportation Department rather than contracted out. All MCDS buses are owned by the school and meet strict safety and repair requirements. They are inspected regularly by State safety officials and daily by the drivers.
Riding the Bus
Riding the bus to school each day is often an enjoyable experience for students while they are at MCDS and remains a fond memory once they have graduated.
The joys of riding the bus from San Francisco to MCDS are captured beautifully in a wonderful essay-- The Big Yellow School Bus -- written by a former MCDS student. We encourage you to read it here.
