Companion Programs
MCDS offers students a variety of enriching and engaging companion programs both after school and during the summer.
Our summer programs, Beyond Borders and Turtle Rock Institute, are open to both MCDS and non-MCDS students alike.
Forte
This after-school performing arts program fosters a non-competitive, child-centered environment where students may immerse themselves in musical study. Students learn technique, ear training, theory, reading, and improvisation.
PM
MCDS offers an after-school program (P.M.) for children in Grades K-5 that provides a safe, caring, stimulating and playful environment.
The P.M. Program provides a blend of structured and self-directed activities in an informal atmosphere. Activities may include indoor and outdoor games, arts and crafts, cooking, free play and informal sports activities. P.M. also provides time for homework, relaxation and exploration. An afternoon snack is provided as well.
ASAP
With after-school classes designed to stimulate a child's natural curiosity, the ASAP Program offers unique opportunities for children to interact with friends in an in-depth study of a particular area of interest. Classes cover a broad range of subjects from science, arts and crafts, and sports, to chess, cooking, and martial arts. Classes are held Monday thru Friday and meet once a week for 10 weeks.
Beyond Borders
A summer program for 4th-6th graders, revolving around the theme of “identity,” Beyond Borders involves various aspects of story telling, theater, performance and technology components. Children are engaged with story telling via the literature of fables and trickster tales. They learn the skills of story telling, photography, animation, puppetry, scene design, and performing.
The program is offered in two three-week sessions. Participants can choose either session or attend both. If they attend both sessions they can enhance their projects, meet new children that enter the program, and discover new genres of story telling. As the curriculum is highly interactive and involves a great deal of work in small groups, we are looking for students who work well with others, are motivated and enthusiastic about learning, and are creative! The students must also be able to read at the 3rd grade level. Ideally, the student and his/her family will be committed to the full sessions once they start.
