How to Apply
Thank you for considering Marin Country Day School for your family. The admission season for the 2017-18 school year began with our first Campus Tour on October 4, 2016. The application deadline is January 10, 2017.
Current applicants, click here to access your admission portal account.
Below are the core steps and requirements of the application process. Click here for a quick overview.
Submit an inquiry online to sign up for a Campus Tour. Join current MCDS parent Tour Guides for a look at campus and a small presentation from administration. Tours are scheduled on select mornings October through January. Click here for dates.
Please tour before submitting an application. Families are not required to tour again if reapplying for the same child.
Reservation required, adult only event. If you require special accommodations or a Spanish or Mandarin translator, please contact us at email@example.com. If relocating outside the admission season, a tour can be arranged.
After the inquiry and tour, prospective families will continue the application process electronically through personal online admission portal.
Applications and supporting documents are due January 10, 2017. Applications for siblings or faculty/staff children are due October 21, 2016. Supporting documents are found in the admission portal and include:
- Kindergarten - Grade 1: Teacher Evaluation form
- Grades 2-7: Two Teacher Evaluation Forms and Transcripts
Applications DO NOT roll over from year to year. We no longer accept applications to eighth grade. There is a $100 application fee which may be paid online via credit card. Please contact Kara Díaz at firstname.lastname@example.org should an application fee waiver be required.
Click here if you have attended a tour and are ready to submit your application. Login credentials are the same used for your inquiry form.
Applications for Indexed Tuition are also due on January 10, 2017. To learn more about Indexed Tuition click here.
After a tour, once an admission portal has been created, a thirty minute Parent Interview may be scheduled with a member of our admission team. Scheduling is available on the homepage of the family admission portal.
Parent interviews are an opportunity to meet a team member in person and engage in an informational exchange. Only one Parent Interview is needed per family, any and all parent/guardians expected to attend.
Applicants are required to attend an on-campus group screening to assess developmental and social readiness. Screenings are held on select mornings and can be scheduled in personal online admission portals. Sibling applicants will be assessed on or before 11/30/16. New family applicants will be assessed between November and February 2017.
Assessments for Grades 1-7
Also known as Admission Testing Saturday, assessments for grades 1-7 take place on February 4, 2017. Applicants visit campus, meet teachers and participate in fun activity sessions as a way to assess fit and readiness. Out of area applicants who are unable to attend on this day may schedule an alternative assessment with the admission office (email@example.com).
Grades 6-7 are also required to take either the ISEE or the SSAT. Those who wish to take the ISEE at MCDS, will do so on Admission Testing Saturday before and in addition to classroom assessment activities. Applicants are free to take the SSAT or the ISEE elsewhere, however they will still be expected to participate in Admission Testing Saturday in the afternoon. Click here to register for the ISEE using Invitation Code: 24VQUJTA. Click here to register for the SSAT.
Upper School Applicant Visits
Due to the significant increase in students at the sixth grade level, we have an Upper School Applicant Visit program. This required step is in addition to Admission Testing Saturday for sixth grade applicants only. Visits are scheduled by the admission office once an application is processed and are held on select Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00am-1:30pm
After the admission checklist has been completed, applications have been processed and assessment results have been reviewed, the Admission Committee will mail decision letters on March 15 and post them on the family portals online March 16. Families will have until 10:00am on March 23 to accept or deny admission offers.
The traditional entry points for admission are kindergarten and sixth grade. Admission to all other grades is based upon attrition, and therefore difficult to determine if and when spaces may become available. We encourage you to apply if you feel MCDS would be a good fit for your child and family.
Kindergarten applicants: Children who are not age five by August 1 in the year they would enroll are not encouraged to apply; however there is not an absolute cut-off date. We have a developmental program that is appropriate for a range of children and waiting an extra year is not necessarily an automatic benefit.
Sixth grade applicants: As students move from fifth to sixth grade, the program shifts from self-contained classrooms to a departmental structure and grade-level advisor groups. This format allows us to admit approximately twenty new students, expanding the size of the grade which broadens the social dynamic of the class.
We do not accept applications to eigth grade.
