Welcome from the Admission Director
Welcome to Marin Country Day School’s admission process.
As you begin your search for the elementary school experience that best fits your child, I am delighted that you are considering MCDS.
Our mission is clear and, at its heart, child-focused: “Our school is a community that inspires children to develop a love of learning, thoughtful perspectives and a diversity of skills; nurtures in each of them a deep sense of respect, responsibility and compassion; and challenges them to envision and work toward a better world.”
Our Statement of Community and Inclusion reminds us all of the value of diversity, multiple ideas and experiences.
We offer a broad and balanced program that draws from the best elements of progressive and traditional education. Our collaborative approach honors each child and challenges students within the framework of a dynamic and engaging curriculum that integrates academics, arts and athletics. There are ample opportunities to explore, question and wonder. Classrooms are active and teachers know their students well.
Our school has a long tradition of modeling school-wide values of respect, responsibility and compassion. We often hear from high schools that MCDS graduates are academically well prepared, still excited about learning and are kind, self reliant individuals.
Parents are a very active part of the Marin Country Day School community. From the school’s founding in 1956 by a dedicated group of parents, we have welcomed parents who wish to partner with us. There are ample volunteer opportunities from helping in a classroom or art room to annual events such as our Book Fair, Kite Day and Community Dinner Dance and Auction. Every parent can find a way to participate. (To learn more about parental involvement, click here.)
As you embark on this exciting journey of considering schools, I look forward to working with you throughout the process. Someone once said, “It is not a parent’s responsibility to pave the way for their children, but to provide a road map.” I believe that MCDS provides such a road map and I look forward to welcoming you to our campus soon.
