Marin Country Day School is an independent, coeducational day school with an enrollment of 550 students in grades K-8.  The school enrolls children from both San Francisco and Marin County and actively seeks diversity in its administration, faculty and student body.

School Nurse - part-time

The School Nurse is responsible for identifying and treating health issues for Marin Country Day students (grades K through 8). Work hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. when school is in session, and for 1 month over the summer, at times to be determined with supervisor.

 This position reports to the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations with a dotted line to the Upper School and Lower School Division Heads.

 Responsibilities

  • Provide care to MCDS students in need of medical treatment from 8:30a.m to 1:30p.m while school is in session
  • Collaborate with parents and administration in developing and implementing care plans for students with chronic illness or allergies.
  • Administer medication to students when approved by their parents and physicians
  • Collect student health and emergency forms/consent to treat and follow up with parents to ensure that the information is complete and that all students have the immunizations required for their age group. Update the database with appropriate information.
  • Organize health information that accompanies students on athletic events away from school and field trips.
  • Update and distribute list of students with allergies and other medical conditions to appropriate faculty members and food service staff.
  • Consult with teachers to ensure appropriate accommodations are made for students with medical concerns
  • Assist in preparing back packs for field trips
  • Coordinate first aid training for all faculty and staff annually prior to the beginning of school
  • Coordinate TB testing for faculty and staff and the administration of the annual, elective flu shots for faculty and staff
  • Attend meetings as appropriate
  • Work with the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations governing the delivery of health care services
  • Coordinate regular head lice checks in Lower School
  • Along with Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations, coordinate with any county (and state) directives regarding emergent or episodic outbreaks (Marin County Dept. of Health, Marin County of Education, etc.)

 
 

Requirements

  • Certification by the American Nurses' Association (ANA) or the National Association of School Nurses (NASN).
  • B.S.N. or Registered Nurse with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work well with parents, students, faculty and staff, with a willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the MCDS community.
    • Commitment to confidentiality and privacy with private medical information
    • Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies.

Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services.

 

PM Study Hall Facilitator and PM Sport/Art Instructor

PM (After School Extended Care Program) is currently seeking to fill two positions for the 2013–2014 school year (August 23, 2013– June 10, 2014).

 PM is the after-school care program available to students in grades K-4. The PM Program is led by the Director of the Extended Care Program and a PM Lead, with three qualified staff members assisting. Considered a place for kids to play and have fun, PM provides a balance between structured and self-directed activities. PM staff members encourage students to use their creative minds through various structured art and building projects, while building on the skills of teamwork and developing self-esteem through sporting games and activities. For children interested in a quieter environment, there is a space dedicated to working on homework, reading or other independent activities.

 These positions report to the Director of the Extended Care Program.

 PM Study Hall Facilitator

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor and facilitate students attending study hall
  • Help students complete and understand assignments
  • Prepare snack for students
  • Create an environment conducive to studying
  • Supervise children on the playground
  • Supervise children in the game room
  • Contribute to the planning of various annual events in PM
  • Attend bi-monthly staff meetings

 This is a part-time job, Monday – Thursday 2:30-5:00, Friday 1:45-6:15. Compensation is competitive and based on experience. No benefits.

 PM Sports/Art Instructor

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and lead a structured art & craft/building & construction/sporting activity for Kindergarten students
  • Plan and lead a structured sporting activity for grades K-4 a few times during the week
  • Supervise children on the playground
  • Supervise children in the game room
  • Contribute to the planning of various annual events in PM
  • Attend bi-monthly staff meetings

 This is a part-time job, Monday – Thursday 1:45–6:00, Friday 3:15-5. Compensation is competitive and based on experience. No benefits.

 ELEMENTARY SUPPORT TEACHER

Reports to Classroom Head Teacher and Division Head

Full time positions available beginning late August 2013 and ending June 2014.

Marin Country Day School seeks motivated educators to support elementary classroom teachers. This position is ideal for individuals beginning a career in education and/or in a credential or graduate program.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Meeting with classroom teacher at least once a week
  • Assisting teacher with whole group, small group and individual activities as determined by the classroom teacher
  • Being aware of and responsive to the needs of head teacher and of children
  • Assisting with classroom organizational and clerical responsibilities
  • Providing supervision and support during lunch
  • Supervising the playground and other duties as necessary
  • Attending weekly support teacher seminars and completing related assignments

 REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of undergraduate degree
  • Desire to pursue a career in education
  • Strong preference for individuals in credentialing and/or advanced degree programs

 

   SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS

This position reports to Division Head.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Implementing lesson plans (when available) and ensuring the integrity of academic time an in a manner that motivates students to learn and participate
• Creating on occasion lessons for students when lesson plans are not available
• Maintaining discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policies
• Ensuring adequate supervision to assure health, welfare and safety of all students
• Performing any other related duties assigned by administrator(s), such as supervising children on the playground, monitoring lunch, and carpool
• Reporting to the Main Office upon arrival to and departure from school; checking mailbox of absent teacher for any materials requiring immediate attention; requesting clarification of school rules and procedure, if necessary
• Reporting all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible
• Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
• Dismissing all students from the classroom before leaving the building
• Leaving documentation of the daily work and leaving student papers for the regular classroom teacher
• Returning instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper places

Qualifications:
• A.A. or B.A. degree with a background in Education or Child Development preferred, but not required
