Events
There are several community-wide special events celebrated throughout the school year. Events such as Kite Day, the Book Fair and Step-Up Day are long-standing, cherished traditions at MCDS.
Kite Day (September) - The first Kite Day took place in 1957. Now, over 50 years later, this fun-filled day features games and activities, a picnic lunch and, of course, kite-flying!
Tour of Marin (October) - A half-century bike ride with professional cyclists through scenic West Marin. Proceeds from Tour of Marin support Indexed Tuition.
Book Fair Week (November) - Begun in 1956, the Book Fair exemplifies the MCDS community's love of literature and reading. The week-long celebration includes a festive Opening Night Buffet & Preview, a luncheon with a noted author as speaker as well as student assemblies with visiting authors. Proceeds from the Book Fair benefit the MCDS Library.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day (November) - Each November grandparents and special friends are welcomed to campus for classroom visits and a lively musical performance by students.
Home Sweet Home Gingerbread House-Building Party (December) - This family event features building and decorating gingerbread houses with funds raised benefiting a community organization such as Habitat for Humanity and Homeward Bound.
Community Dinner & Dance /Live Auction/Online Auction (Spring) - These events take place each spring and support Indexed Tuition.
K-5 Walkathon (Spring) - Students in grades K-5 participate in the Walk-a-thon each Spring. Proceeds from this event support Indexed Tuition and a service organization determined by the students themselves.
Step-Up Day (June) - Step-Up Day is a joyous occasion at MCDS. The entire community gathers to celebrate the accomplishments of the school year. Eighth graders "step up" and off to high school and all other students "step up" to the next grade.
