Events
There are several community-wide special events celebrated
throughout the school year. Events such
as Kite Day, the Book Fair and Step-Up Day are long-standing, cherished
traditions at MCDS.
Kite Day (September) - The first Kite Day took place in 1957. Now, over 50 years later, this fun-filled day
features games and activities, a picnic
lunch and, of course, kite-flying!
Tour of Marin (October) - A half-century bike ride with
professional cyclists through scenic West Marin. Proceeds from Tour of Marin
event support Indexed Tuition.
Book Fair Week (November) - Begun in 1956, the Book Fair
exemplifies the MCDS community's love of literature and reading. The week-long celebration includes a festive
Opening Night Buffet & Preview, a luncheon with a noted author as speaker
as well as student assemblies with visiting authors. Proceeds from the Book Fair benefit the MCDS
Library.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day (November) - Each
November grandparents and special friends are welcomed to campus for classroom
visits and a lively musical performance by students.
Home Sweet Home Gingerbread House-Building Party (December)
- This family event features building and decorating gingerbread houses with
funds raised benefiting a community organization such as Habitat for Humanity
and Homeward Bound.
Community Dinner & Dance /Live Auction/Online Auction
(Spring) - These events take place each spring and support Indexed Tuition.
Walkathon/Upper School Dance-a-thon (Spring) - Students
in grades K-5 participate in the Walk-a-thon and students in grades 6-8, the
Dance-a-thon. Proceeds from these events
support Indexed Tuition, Beyond Borders and a service organization determined by the students
themselves.
Step-Up Day (June) - Step-Up Day is a joyous occasion at MCDS. The entire community gathers to celebrate the
accomplishments of the school year.
Eighth graders "step up" and off to high school and all other students
"step up" to the next grade.
