MCDS Family Association

From its inception, MCDS has nurtured a community of committed, energetic, diverse and generous parents and encouraged a culture of active involvement in the life of the school. This tradition includes volunteer participation of all kinds.

The Family Association encourages parents to find roles that reflect their individual interests, talents and schedules.

The roles parents choose to engage in range from leadership roles, to one-time volunteer activities or roles with predictable schedules, such as helping in the classroom or in the library. Every volunteer contribution is deeply appreciated and there is truly a volunteer role for everyone.

Role of the Family Association

The Family Association Leadership Team is made up of over 40 dedicated parent volunteers who oversee more than 20 different committees that are active across many aspects of school life.

The mission of the Family Association is:

  • To develop a sense of community within the parent body
  • To deepen parents connection to the school
  • To coordinate volunteers and promote school life
  • To facilitate communication among the parent body, administration, and the Board of Trustees

The Family Association holds three meetings each year and the entire parent body is encouraged to attend. These meetings provide valuable information about school life.

Community Events

The Family Association, in collaboration with MCDS faculty and staff, organizes a range of events during the school year, including several beloved traditions such as:

  • Back to School Parent Coffee
  • Kite Day Fall Family Picnic
  • Book Fair
  • Staff Treats
  • Home Sweet Home Gingerbread House-Building
  • Community Dinner Dance
  • K-5 Student Walkathon

Collectively, the MCDS parent community contributes over 25,000 volunteer hours each year. The role of the Family Association is key in helping to nurture and support a healthy and vibrant school community.
