We understand that the term people of color may or may not fit an individual’s personal preference on how they identify. It is, however, a term that MCDS and NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) commonly use.

NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) definitions for terms above:

Families/People of Color: Families using the following identifiers:  Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, Bi-Racial/Multiracial, Black/African American, Chicano/Hispanic/Latinx, East Indian, Middle Eastern, Native American Indian/Alaska Native.

Affinity Space: a space that can reinforce positive self-images, reaffirm identity, and can address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
