Dear MCDS Families,
Even though I had promised not to clog your inbox with another update until Sunday, the situation keeps evolving quickly, so I will try to keep this one brief.
Yesterday San Francisco Unified School District announced that they will be closed through their spring break on April 3. The Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) announced today that they recommend all public schools to close for at least two weeks, starting March 16. MCDS, in accordance with our public school districts, will continue to close campus and provide distance learning until at least March 30, with a possibility of a longer campus closure. Since the situation keeps evolving rapidly, I will continue to provide timely communication of other changes.
Calendar Updates
Sadly, this means that the 7th grade Joshua Tree trip, 27 March - 2 April, will not go as planned. The US team will think of every possible creative way to reschedule the trip; however, we do not have a solution at this time.
Concerns About Exposure
I understand that community members are concerned about whether they may have been exposed to COVID-19 through the students or staff member to whom I referred in my recent letters. The school cannot share details that may reveal the identity of these people. Unfortunately, the public health department does not have a protocol on alerting families about potential risk of infection unless there is a known COVID-19 case. If we do get notice of a positive test result, we will follow the public health department's steps for informing those who may have been at risk of exposure. Therefore, knowing that COVID-19 is in the Bay Area and exposure could be anywhere, if you're concerned about being infected or exposing at-risk people to infection, please ask your primary care provider about whether to self-isolate or other actions you may need to do to keep yourself and others safe.
I will close with the words of some of our LS teachers from their classroom note today: Please, please, please listen to and cooperate with your parents. If they have work to do, find activities (other than screen time) to keep yourself busy! This will be the greatest gift of kindness you can give them.
I hope your children are kind to you, and that you're kind to yourself. Have a great weekend, and I'll be in touch again soon.
Sincerely,
