Dear MCDS Families,
"Been homeschooling a 6-year old and 8-year old for one hour and 11 minutes. Teachers should be paid a billion dollars a year. Or a week." - Shonda Rhimes's Twitter post 16 March.
If you struggled with setting a routine for your children yesterday and today, you are not alone. Teachers have worked harder than ever to provide thoughtful and engaging activities for your students, while also homeschooling their own children. They are doing double-duty during a time when very little is certain.
Thank you for the positive messages of appreciation you've sent to our incredible teachers! And if you're wanting more, please be patient. We are constantly evolving not only the content of our distance learning program, but also how we will continue to deliver it. We are planning on creating real-time experiences for teachers to connect with students; and this takes some time and training. Thanks for your feedback and for your empathy, as we all are working at capacity to make the most of this strange experience.
This incredible uncertainty has definitely led to an increase of anxiety globally and in our community. While it's not easy to regulate our stress, remember that children take their cues from us, and the more anxious we become, they will be affected as well. Consider certain steps to reduce your stress for your own well-being and your family's.
Finally, reach out to someone. Our counselors Margie Schwartz (mschwartz@mcds.org) and Nell Branco (nbranco@mcds.org) are available to support you and your children through this difficult time. We also have more ideas on our COVID-19 resource page on our website for you to access any time.
Take good care, and be well.
Sincerely,
