Dear MCDS Families,
"Humans are adaptable: we can still fix this. But the opportunity to do so will not last for long. We must start today." - Greta Thunberg
This is Earth Week, and that means in addition to our everyday efforts to conserve resources, let's also take time to celebrate nature's gifts and commit to changes we can make to leave this planet better for the next generation. We have already seen how the youth movement, led by environmental activist Greta Thunberg, stepped up last year, holding marches and demanding systemic measures to turn back the clock on climate change. While that movement is inspiring in its message and collective support around the world, our students also know that they can make change in individual and smaller ways too.
Our Sustainability Coordinator Liz Zavattero curated resources in an Earth Day 2020 link, which provides a range of options for all ages. Thanks to Liz for putting these together for our community. We hope you find some of these activities fun to do as a family!
PM and Homework Café are Back!
Thanks to Heather Nunn and the PM staff, we started today some optional PM activities for students, from 3:00-4:15pm daily. A link for PM Zoom times can be found on each classroom's website and a list of activities will appear in the Pipeline each Thursday. Homework Café is also open this week for students in grades 5-8 on Tuesday and Thursday, 2:00-3:00pm, with some highlights such as "Sports Chat with Michael" and "HW Café Hangout with Zach and Tasha." Information about Homework Café has been shared with students in their weekly notes from Barbara and Mark. These options are offered at no additional charge.
Zoom This Week
You received information about upcoming Zoom meetings and grade level roundtables this week. We hope you can join us for these opportunities to get questions answered and to check in. See you on Zoom!
Some Good News
Don't forget to send along your photos, short videos, and stories about people in our community who are doing inspiring things or spreading good cheer during COVID-19. We would love to hear good news! All submissions can be emailed to kwatson@mcds.org.
Happy Earth Week, and stay safe!
Warmly,
